Is Travel Insurance AIG?

Travel insurance policies are now available from more than just AIG. Travel insurance companies such as American Express, Discover and Travelocity offer policies similar to AIG policies. These insurance policies provide cover for the same things and can be purchased at the same places where you would buy any other travel policy. There are differences though between these policies and those provided by AIG though.

AIG travel insurance quotes that are provided online are generally meant for single trips, usually one year in duration. The policies are designed to reimburse you for the cost of travel and other expenses that are incurred when taking a single trip. One such policy is the annual multi trip policy. With this type of travel insurance you pay for the single trip that you have taken so far, plus all the extra costs that have occurred during that one year. It provides cover for loss and delay and the cost of baggage fees.

The price of an annual multi trip policy is determined by the number of trips that you have taken so far. The cost of the policy will change according to the number of days you have covered. Single trip cover is generally more expensive than the multi trip travel insurance plan. For example, if you have covered five travel plans so far then the insurance policy will cost you twice as much as if you had not. Similarly, the length of time you have covered can also affect the cost.

For example, if you have covered ten travel plans then the cost per traveller will be double what it would be for two travellers. In addition, there are other benefits that are included in the package that are not available with other travel insurance plans. You will receive coverage for emergency medical expenses within the borders of the country, compensation for delayed or lost bags, coverage for personal liability, and coverage for damages to your health, personal property, and clothing. If you have an accident that involves an emergency medical expense then the policy will provide you with an additional five percent (5 USD) of reimbursement.

Single trip policies come with different types of benefits. The lower cover levels may not cover you for emergencies when you travel outside your country. When travelling outside your country, there may be sudden changes in climate that you may not be prepared for. Some policies will cover the cancellation of your flight. Other cover levels will reimburse you for the full journey from beginning to end, including the part you spend travelling within your country.

There is no point in taking out a multi trip or single trip travel insurance plan if you are only going to travel once in a year. The cost will not be much more. A one time policy will give you peace of mind and some security while travelling but it will not cover you against sudden changes in weather conditions. One trip insurance usually covers the same area for one time but may be quite expensive.

Most travel insurance covers you for one to twenty one days of coverage, inclusive of medical costs. There are some plans that can cover you for up to 70 years (70 years old and over) and pay up to one hundred thousand (1 million US dollars) towards medical costs overseas. This is considered extremely good travel insurance because it will ensure that you never run into financial difficulty in the event that you become ill or injured abroad. In addition, it is one of the cheapest travel insurance policies available.

As we said before, most travel insurance policies will not cover you for emergencies when you travel outside your home country. However, some plans do offer a one day emergency service where in medical emergencies you will be taken care of by a medical doctor who is either on call or at your request within one hour of your arrival. The doctor will arrange transport to a local hospital so that you receive proper medical care. One of the main disadvantages with travel guard coverage is that you will have to pay out of pocket fees for the doctor and medical personnel who attend to you if you get sick or injured while you are on transit. It may be worthwhile to arrange extra medical coverage for these types of emergencies.
